Putting It All in Perspective!

Since we've been back I can truly understand the magnitude of what I've learned in both Israel and Jordan. One of the easiest lessons to learn from traveling abroad is that we are very small pieces to a very large puzzle, and by puzzle I mean the world. Often times our guides or even strangers would remind us of our responsibility as American citizens. Although at the time our "responsibility" seemed insignificant coming from a country of 323 million people, it is difficult to truly grasp what that means. Our exact responsibility is still unknown. Uncertainty and hope filled each Israelis and Jordanians conversations with us. But how is it that we have the responsibility to answer some of the countries' issues? Is it because we are from the very country that funds both countries' military initiatives? Or is it because some countries still consider the U.S. to be a world leader? Why were WE given the call to be mindful of our responsibility? Although I am very interested in both countries' political systems, I am not fully versed on the subject yet. BUT I will say this. U.S.  citizens have an unique opportunity that other countries may not fully share. Our freedom of speech, although restricted at times, grants us the ability to use our own voice to express the wrongs we see in the world. Gathering factual evidence and relatable experience to support your convictions can be difficult in a world of "fake news" but staying vigilant in your journey to utilize your rights is the most important responsibility we have as American citizens. So when Israelis and Jordanians call for us to take advantage of our ultimate responsibility, step up because its everything our ancestors fought for and its what their people are still being suppressed for.
