caesarea

sunday, june 18

a few of us woke up early this morning and watched the sun rise. there were a few clouds, but a sunrise over the sea of galilee is never a bad choice.

we left the casa nova and headed to megiddo. it was one of the most important cities back in biblical times. its location allowed the inhabitants to control the outlet of the iron valley to the jezreel valley as well as the via maris (the way of the sea). it was in the middle of the trade route that linked egypt to mesopotamia. megiddo had a spring and fertile soil that made everyone want to rule there. unfortunately, when the spring dried up, megiddo became uninhabited.

christian tradition identifies megiddo as armageddon, which we know as the place where the great battle will take place in the last days.

after touring megiddo, we hopped on the bus and headed to caesarea. what a beautiful place! pictures don't do it justice.

or, maybe they do. heart eyes.

our first stop was king herod's theater. here, people would be entertained through comedies and tragedies being acted out. the mediterranean sea was in the background of all of this. what a view.

then, we walked a little ways and took a look at what remains of herod's palace. what a nice setup! we had previously visited his palace and herodium, and if it was me, i'd be in caesarea every day!

caesarea was a blast! the mediterranean sea was "absolutely fabulous" as kellie would say. what. a. day.
