Petra

The two days we were in Petra were pretty intense. Beautiful but intense.  I had only see pictures of the Treasury and really didn't know just how much there was to Petra. It definitely exceeded any expectation I had.

The hotel we were staying in was  right next to the entrance of Petra. I didn't think there'd be much walking, but boy was I wrong. It was about half of a mile or so of a dirt path to get to the Siq. The walk in the Siq was quite nice. It was a shaded path that gave us a nice break from the sun and heat. It also had incredible views. After almost a mile, The Siq opens up onto the Treasury.
It was such a dramatic entrance into Petra. It was gorgeous and so grand. After we took several pictures we walked further into Petra.
Everywhere I looked there was so much to see and take in.

After lunch we were told that we had 850 steps to climb in order to get to the Monastery. For some reason in my head 850 steps didn't seem so bad... wrong, wrong, wrong. At step 50 I was already out of breath. It was the hottest part of the day and the steps were all different shapes and went all the way to the top of this mountain. Our group did such an amazing job pushing each other to persevere. Definitely couldn't have done it alone!

Once we reached the top, there it was. The Monastery was just as grand as the Treasury and didn't have as many people in front so it made for some great pictures as well! After catching our breath and  drinking some water it was time to make the hike home. Going down the 850 steps was a lot better than going up, however the stretch from The Siq to the hotel seemed never ending. Again, I had a great support system cheering each other on and trying to come up with conversations to help get our minds off the heat and walking. We finally made it back to a nice air conditioned hotel.

On our second day, we took a different path to get inside Petra. We started early in the morning so it actually felt nice! There was a lot of climbing involved in day two. I didn't realize where we were climbing to until we were there. I looked over the edge of the rock and there the Treasury was. I
loved getting another opportunity to view such a grand monument.

After a water break and breather break we continued our hike up to The High Place. This hike wasn't easy. It pushed each person to overcome obstacles like heights and endurance. I loved watching our group push and encourage each other to keep going. It was incredible to see such love for our team in those moments.

The good thing about the hikes we've done here in Petra are the views. It makes the huffing and puffing so much worth it in the end. On our way back to our hotel we were able to stop at different tombs and special places that were so beautiful and unique.

Visiting one of the seven wonders of the world doesn't just happen to anyone so getting to experience it has been something I'll never forget. Petra has been amazing.
